the issy-les-moulineaux museum has two purposes:
- the history of playing cards thanks to its very rich collections coming from a large donation made for the benefit of the city in 1930,
- the architectural, scientific, technical and industrial heritage of the city which was notably the site of the beginnings of aviation at the very beginning of the 20th century. The city's history gallery is located in a pavilion at the southern entrance to the château des princes de conti which was nearby and of which only this pavilion and the outbuildings, purchased by the city in 1949, remained after the last war. A modern building was built around the pavilion to house the french playing card museum. Indeed, the castle of the princes of conti, built at the end of the 17th century, burned down during the fighting of 1871, remained in ruins until its demolition in 1906. Established since the end of 1893, at the villa des brillants, on the border of meudon and issy, auguste rodin became interested in the ruins of the château, of which he purchased architectural ornaments to bring back to his property in 1905. He also rented part of the castle's outbuildings to create a molding workshop entrusted to his assistant paul cruet (1880-1966). Paul cruet continued his work after rodin's death in 1917, remaining at the service of the rodin museum until 1937. Upon his death, his widow donated her personal collection of plasters, drawings and old photographs to the town of issy. These objects are kept in the city museum. The exhibition pays tribute to paul cruet by showing part of the collection of the musée d'issy alongside sculptures and documents loaned by the musée rodin and other museums. Collection: Musée Français de la Carte à Jouer.
