Maastricht, huis Collette & Grote Ingang (J v Liender, ca 1740), Pieter Jan van Liender, circa 1740
View of collette's house on the mergelweg, near the northwest side of the sint-pietersberg in maastricht. Godefridus augustinus collette (1672-1755) was a lawyer and amateur historian. He was, among other things, liège vice high sheriff in maastricht and sheriff of sint pieter. His house (and many others) was demolished in 1747, due to the impending siege by louis xv. On the right you can see the great entrance, an entrance to the underground tunnel system (marl quarry) that collapsed in 1916. Date: circa 1740.
