The flight of sultan mehmed has allowed the angora parliament to vote in a new caliph, with the goal of guarding over islam. The selection fell on abdul medjid, a cousin of former sultan mehmed vi. The present caliph's father was sultan abdul aziz, killed in 1876. The new caliph is a man with a vast culture, at age 54. He enjoys great sympathy in turkey and was elected caliph with virtualy the totality of ballots. He is a great friend of france. His daughter, princess durri chehvâr sultana (sovereign pearl) is merely 13 years of age [sic], this being the reason why she can be seen without a veil.
