The present caliph's father was sultan abdul aziz, killed in 1876. The new caliph is a man with a vast culture, at age 54. He enjoys great sympathy in turkey and was elected caliph with virtualy the totality of ballots. He is a great friend of france. His daughter, princess durri chehvâr sultana (sovereign pearl) is merely 13 years of age [sic], this being the reason why she can be seen without a veil.
