Glikl Pappenheim, Leopold Pilichowski

Bertha pappenheim (1859-1936) in the costume of glikl bas judah leib. The original of the picture is lost. Reproductions are included in the first calendar of the jewish women's league (1925) and in the jewish women's league's papers (issue april 4, 1932). Note the beautiful lace cuffs: bertha pappenheim was known as a collector of beautiful handicrafts, especially lace. The text in the background reads in transliteration: zikron marat gliql hamil (yiddish title of the memoirs of glikl of hamelin, which bertha pappenheim translated). Object Type: painting.
