John Hope, 4th Earl of Hopetoun, Henry Raeburn

John hope (1765 - 1823), the fourth earl of hopetoun, was a military man, attaining the rank of general, who served in the napoleonic wars, mostly in the mediterranean and the peninsular campaign. He was quite a brave man and was highly commended by wellington, who said, " he was the ablest man in the peninsular army. ". Date: believed to be a 1921 reproduction.
