Unknown lady by G.Dawe (1820s, GIM), George Dawe, after 1819

Portrait of an unknown woman by the famous british artist, portraitist and creator of the military gallery of the winter palace george dawe (1781–1829) was painted shortly after the artist’s arrival in russia in 1819. The circle of dawe’s models, who became a court portraitist, was limited to high society. It is obvious that the young beauty depicted in the portrait belonged to the st. Petersburg elite, who were carried away at that time by the fashion for everything english. Date: after 1819.
