Engraving for "allemanische gedichte" by p. T. Hebel (1806): christmas eve scene. In an alsatian living room, the mother sits, looking towards her child who is sleeping in a small bed. She has a finger placed on her lips; with the other hand, she leafs through a small book; on his knees, a small round basket containing toys. From the ceiling hangs a christmas tree decorated with cakes, the oldest representation of a hanging christmas tree. Date: 1806.
