Pastel portrait of honoré de balzac, made by the artist eugène giraud on the day of the writer's death. The artist was invited by balzac's literary agent, laurent-jean. According to andré mauroac, "in this portrait, made with talent and love, the head stands out clearly, beautiful, powerful, the expression of the face is peaceful" ("prometheus, or the life of balzac", p. 235).
