The experts at bruun rasmussen have not been very precise about this painting. They called it prinsesse dagmars afrejse til rusland ("the princess dagmar leaving for russia") and gave the date as september 1890. Firstly, the princess was only princess until 1866, when she became the russian empress, and her departure in 1866 was aboard a danish vessel. Secondly, the royal yachts shown in the painting did not exist in 1890. The uploader is guessing that this is a scene from september 1899, when emperor nicolas of russia visited the royal danish family along with his mother, the empress dowager maria feodorovna (formerly princess dagmar). The painting shows the two imperial yachts polyarnaya zvezda (polar star) to the left and standart to the right. Maria feodorovna regularly used the polyarnaya zvezda, and it might very well be her leaving the quai of copenhagen to be rowed to the yacht. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1899. Dimensions: height: 63 cm (24.8 in); width: 95 cm (37.4 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Unknown. Andreas Riis Carstensen - Enkekejserinde Dagmars afrejse til Rusland
