Historical commentary: giraud made the opera ball the subject of two paintings: "a parisian night (la exit du bal de l'opéra)", exhibited at the salon of 1866 (not located) and "bal at the opera", exhibited at the salon of 1867 (n°664). This last painting shows us the front foyer of the le peletier room, like manet's famous painting on the same subject, dated 1874 (national gallery in washington).
