The fall of Phaethon (Ovid, Metamorphoses, II, 31-328), Jan Carel van Eyck

Phaethon, son of phoebus and clymene, dares to drive his father's chariot of the sun, causing chaos on earth and the intervention of jupiter with his rays. Rubens drew some sketches, inspired by the metamorphoses, for the decoration of the torre de la parada.
