Numbers cap 1 v 2: “’take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls. ”’ vignette with a pyramid of shields with images including sword, lion, ship, deer, serpent and lion – symbols of the tribes of israel –amongst symbolic foliage and with an incense-burner above. The palm and the laurel are for victory, the oak for steadfastness. The idea is that the victories of the israelites over the idolatrous canaanites render honour to jehovah.
