The famous poet taira no tadanori, sitting under a blossoming cherry tree; behind him his armor and bow, on the ground in front of him paper and writing implements; at night. Unable to find a place to sleep during his journey to the battle at ichi no tani, tadamori decided to rest under a cherry tree, where he composed the poem in the cartouche at the top right.
