Grand e. For” [jean-jacques grandville, designer, and eugène forest, lithographer] iconographic description: “this reception is a dream, a pear-shaped nightmare that torments us sometimes” (in explanation). In a palatial room (the throne room), king louis-philippe, represented as a pear (“supreme pear”, in explanation) decorated with the legion of honor, is seated on his throne to the right. The stem decorated with a leaf acts as a toupee. He receives a courtesan who bows before him. Around the scene are other figures, all represented in the form of pears. The back wall, in a gothic-inspired style, has bas reliefs with a pear decoration. The stained glass windows are also decorated with the pear motif. The throne and the carpet are also decorated with this motif. The motif of the pear, usually designating only louis-philippe among caricaturists, is extended here to characterize all members of the government. The legend of the pl. Cites the words spoken by the king and denounces the very pronounced monarchical tone of the july monarchy, sharing many points with the monarchical regime of the old regime. The supreme pear (louis-philippe) receives all the varieties of the species: the “gober pear”, the “martin-sec”, the “naples pear” (in explanation) (queen marie-amélie, with her feathered hat). Next to it is princess adelaide. Also present are persil, as well as the duke of orléans, wearing a high military hat above the stem. Person / character represented: parsley, jean-charles; louis-philippe i, king of the french; orléans, ferdinand-philippe d', duke mode of acquisition: retrospective registration date of acquisition: 20–02–2013 institution: maison de balzac. Date: En 1832.
