The battleship dannebrog under construction at orlogsværftet in 1849. The oldest known photograph (daguerreotype) of a danish warship. The picture is anonymous, and there is no year on it either. On some papers attached to the protocol it is written: "if you look closely, you will be able to make out the ship's figurehead, a standing female figure with the flag in her right hand and her left pointing up to the sky, from where the flag came. The figure is today placed on holmen. The decoration was one of the last things that was added to a ship, and in the case of dannebrog, the ornament drawing is dated december 1849. The ship is, so to speak, ready for launch - with stern in front. There is thus every reason to assume that the daguerreotype was taken immediately before. ". Date: 1849.
