Lyrebird (menura novaehollandiae)
john gould's painting is of specimens at the british museum, which had been prepared for display by a taxidermist who had never seen a live lyrebird, with the result that, unfortunately, the tail in the display is not accurate within this painting. Please check the english-language external links for photos of living lyrebirds, to see how the tail is accurately displayed. Date: circa 1848.
