Lyre bird, John Gould, circa 1848

Lyre bird, John Gould, circa 1848

Lyrebird (menura novaehollandiae) john gould's painting is of specimens at the british museum, which had been prepared for display by a taxidermist who had never seen a live lyrebird, with the result that, unfortunately, the tail in the display is not accurate within this painting. Please check the english-language external links for photos of living lyrebirds, to see how the tail is accurately displayed. Date: circa 1848.
