The work represents the child jesus being presented by his parents in the temple of jerusalem, as prescribed in jewish law. This canvas belongs to a series of twelve paintings about the life of jesus christ, with their original gilded frames, which come from the convent church of la merced calzada in valladolid. They have been attributed to the granada painter pedro atanasio bocanegra, at least since the 1843 inventory, and the attribution has not changed to the present. Object Type: painting.
