iconographic description:
a young woman, dressed in a light dress leaving her arms bare, pushes away with a dignified gesture a man who tries to hug her by grabbing his shoulders. The man's top hat fell to the ground. Monnier and balzac, inspired by the same situations, often come together in their descriptions of the morals of their contemporaries, one through drawing, the other through writing. " - you are wrong, mademoiselle, said jules astounded. My wife is incapable. - ah! so you are married you deusse! said the grisette, showing some surprise. Then it is much worse, sir, isn't it true, for a woman who has the good fortune to be married in legitimate marriage, to have relations with a man like henri. . . - but what, henri, said monsieur jules, taking ida and dragging her into a neighboring room so that his wife would hear nothing more. (extract from ferragus, 1834, honoré de balzac)
