La niña Matilde Cobos, Zacarías González Velázquez, 1832

Portrait of the girl matilde cobos, who was born in the spanish city of cádiz. She is portrayed half-length against a neutral background. Combed with ringlets that frame her temples and wearing a showy black velvet hat as a turban, very fashionable in 1830, she wears a green suit with a wide neckline and puffed sleeves, which she fastens with a branched satin belt. On his face, which appears to be about 8 years old, he outlines a shy smile, while he directs the intense and penetrating gaze of his large black eyes at the viewer, showing in his hand the jeweled cross that hangs from his neck.
