U. S. Senator carl schurz caricatured as shakespeare's richard iii lies in the lower right corner of the cartoon curled up in bed with his sword beside him and a paper inscribed “for the kind of peace we will have if h. G. & g. B. Are elected see missouri the state of carl schurz and gratz brown” about him in the rest of the cartoons are drawn figures and situations representing his dreams and depicting men in various violent activities: african and european americans looking beat up; grim kkk members flogging another european american; an african american lynched; a dead or dying european american, attended by another under a poster that says “death to republican that vote for grant and wilson k. K. K. ”; an african american being shot by a european american. Date: 7 September 1872.
