iconographic description:
fountain project intended to be erected at place de l'europe. In the center, europe personified in the form of a woman seated on a throne, draped, her right hand resting on a sword and the left holding a shield in front of which two full-length figures carry a banner on which is inscribed: "civilization". The throne of europe is on a base engraved "europe" and just below "art". The base is composed of fluted columns between which torches burn; just below, heads from which spring water from the fountain collected in a basin decorated by lions supporting the columns. On each side of the fountain two sculptures on an engraved base, on the left "rhin" and on the right "danube". At the bottom of the sheet, a 1/10th ruler and the plan of the fountain. At the bottom of the drawing, handwritten in pencil: "project for a fountain to decorate the place de l'europe. A. Etex. 1839. ". Institution: carnavalet museum, history of paris
