Hms 'bellerophon' (1824), 50 miles ese of malta, 1 feb 1852 inscribed: "h. M. S. Bellerophon. Captain the rt honble lord george poulet. In a gale, 50 miles ese of malta - feby 1st 1852". Corresponding to this print is the sketchbook kept 1850-53 by mends, also in the nmm collection. The original watercolour behind this composition is not included, but there are two (pai0863/4) showing mends's own ship (hms 'trafalgar') affected by the same winds. Date: circa 1852.
