This portrait was inventoried in 1890 as a painting from frans pourbus the younger, author of two documented maria's portraits (one in the galleria palatina, one in the uffizi gallery). Actually documents from the «guardaroba medicea» (medicean cloakroom) reveal that the painting is a copy from pourbus made by painter giovanni lionardo henner, a giovanni bilivert's pupil, and registered on 11 july 1628.
