ephraim byram (1809-1881) a self-taught scientist and clockmaker who ran the sherry and byram clockworks of sag harbor. He also was a maker of navigational and nautical instruments to aid the local ships. In 1836 he was awarded a gold medal by the american institute for his work on an orrery; an articulated scaled model of the solar system. Buried in oakland cemetery (sag harbor, ny).
