expiatory monument erected in memory of the duke of berry, on the site of the old opera (currently square louvois). Historical commentary:
as early as 1820, a subscription was opened for the erection of a monument; moutiers and malpiece were the architects of this chapel, the construction of which began in 1826 was not completed in 1830. There was then talk of using it for a monument to the victims of the revolution of 1830, then abandoning this idea, we thought of using it as a town hall. In 1832, following an attempt to remove materials, trials began. The monument commission saw its appeal rejected and the destruction of the chapel was completed. The operation was completed in 1836.
