The canvas represents the moment when the archangel saint gabriel announced to the virgin mary that she would be the mother of the savior, jesus christ. This work is a replica, although smaller, of the annunciation painted by el greco that is kept in the prado museum and that almost certainly formed part of the altarpiece of doña maría de aragón.
