Stem Cup, 1426

These two ming imperial wares [1957. 60 and 1957. 61] are among the smallest, but most precious, of the museum's holdings in chinese ceramics. Luminosity of glaze, freedom of drawing, and vibrancy of color are perfectly unified to fit the delicate shapes of these luxury items. Date: 1426. Place of creation: China, Jiangxi province, Jingdezhen, Ming dynasty (1368-1644), Xuande mark and period (1426-1435). Dimensions: Overall: 9 x 9.9 cm (3 9/16 x 3 7/8 in.). Medium: enamel, porcelain with underglaze blue. Collection: Cleveland Museum of Art.
