(home port to north tonawanda ny) entered service july 1908 on maiden voyage july 28, 1908 upbound carrying cargo of coal to port arthur on ran on reef off passage island northeast of isle royale, lake superior. Released, repaired and returned to service. Permanent enrollment at niagara falls ny oct 12, 1908 (#1) ran on reef again oct 24, 1908 off northwest shore of keweenaw peninsula, lake superior. Downbound from superior wi with cargo of iron ore for ashtabula oh. Raised again, repaired and returned to service. Sold jan 19, 1916 to johnstown steamship co. , cleveland oh, m. A. Hanna & co. , mgr. (home town to fairport oh) and renamed edwin e. Slick. Fleet sold 1925 to bethlehem transportation corporation, cleveland oh, h. K. Oakes, mgr. And renamed lackawanna (2). Sold 1966 to buckeye steamship co. , cleveland oh, hutchinson & co. , mgr. Fleet sold 1969 to kinsman marine transit co. , cleveland oh sold for scrap 1970 to marine salvage ltd, port colborne on. Resold to canadian dredge & dock co. And sunk as a temporary breakwater at nanticoke on during contruction of a power plant. Raised 1973 and towed to toronto on, where she laid up for the winter. Used in may 1974 to ferry stone to port credit on, where it was dumped into former str. Ridgetown, which was being sunk there as a breakwater. Resold 1974 to german shipbreakers. Cleared quebec qc aug 3, 1974 with str. Kinsman venture towed by polish tug jantar. --vessel histories of sterling berry.
