Daguerreotype of renty or rentry, a slave from the congo, on a plantation in columbia, south carolina, made for louis agassiz in 1850. Agassiz commissioned this and other slave daguerrotypes to confirm his belief in the inferiority of the black race and seperate creation for the different races of man.
