Reunion dodo, Roelant Savery, Late 1600s

Reunion albinistic dodo and other birds by dutch artist pieter withoos (1654-1693). The bird was thought to have been drawn from a living specimen brought to amsterdam, but was actually copied from a painting by pieter holsteyn, which might in turn have been copied from a 1611 painting of a likewise white dodo by roelant savery. [1] from collection of lord rothschild. Object Type: painting. Date: Late 1600s. Medium: painting.
