Explanation of pl. P. 313; description, analysis: the royal throne is surrounded by protectors: military, ecclesiastics, foreigners (notably the holy alliance of russia, austria and prussia) who exert their weight to prevent it from flying away. He is also kept on the ground by the hereditary peerage, the price of the electoral census making it possible to exclude the less well-off section of the population. . . In the foreground, a man of the people, carving the foot of a new throne, certainly, which, this one, would be based on republican bases, as the inscriptions on the stone tend to make clear (dates of the three glorious years). The pl. Tends to show that a regime, if it wants to last, must at all costs receive the support of the people: “this is because any throne which is not seated on the unshakeable foundations of freedom must end up falling before the cry of the people (…)”. Mode of acquisition: retrospective registration date of acquisition: 20–02–2013 institution: maison de balzac. Date: En 1831.
