Leonardi’s upper left side is laminated by a bright light, the right side sinks into a shadow of blue and green that extends from her bare shoulder up to her right temple. Her cerise mouth is placed almost in the center of the portrait and accentuated by black outlines. Her head is tilted to her left. Leonardi’s striking nose stands is emphasized, and her wild dark tresses seem to have a life of their own, evoking the ancient greek myth of medusa, with hair of serpents and burning eyes. She is dangerous and alluring, challenging. Hodler did not date this version. Object Type: painting. Date: circa 1910. Dimensions: 34.7 × 40 cm (13.6 × 15.7 in). Medium: oil on canvas.
