Cannon at the Citadel (Copenhagen), Martinus Rørbye, 1826

This elaborately decorated bronze cannon from 1633 still exists and is on display at the royal danish arsenal museum. The carriages of danish guns had been painted grey since 1805, but a few "royal" cannons were allowed to keep the red colour. Note the soldier in red in the background. Danish army uniforms were mostly red, until blue uniforms were introduced in the 1848-1850 war. Source: henrik bramsen, danske marinemalere, 1962, page 30. Object Type: painting. Date: 1826. Dimensions: height: 23.2 cm (9.1 in); width: 30.5 cm (12 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: The Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle.
