In the center, a wolf is seated at a table and eating a leg of lamb. To the right of the stage, a butcher with the head of a dog, wearing a long kitchen knife and an apron, brings a plate of meat to the wolf. To the left of the scene, a man with the head of a crocodile, holding his top hat in his hands, solicits the wolf during his meal. Excerpt from métamorphoses du jour (editions gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "but why does he have to take on this surly air and open his mouth as if he wanted to swallow this character who presents himself humbly, hat in hand, and in the attitude of someone who is coming to ask for a service? ah! i'm there. This poor caiman hasn't had dinner, he's smelled the time and the wolf's meal, and he's coming with an intention that's easy to guess.
