Alfredo cottrau, design engineer and business manager of neapolitan origins, built a serious technical and empirical education in his youth. After 1861 he directed the works for the mont cenis tunnel in turin; since 1873 its activity has been linked to the italian industrial company of metal constructions and the construction of iron bridges and railway lines.
