Fort necessity paul weber, 1855 colonel george washington of the virginia regiment surrendered fort necessity to french and native forces on july 4, 1754. Although the fort was destroyed by the victors after washington's defeat one hundred years before, this painting shows traces of the earthworks that surrounded the round stockade wall.
