The ferapontov monastery was founded by therapont of white lake in 1397; in 1798 the monastery was abolished by the decree of the holy sinod, in 1904 it was reinstituted as a convent that was closed twenty years later, in 1924. In 1975 the museum of dionisy’s frescoes was created in the territory of ferapontov monastery.
