iconographic description:
the scene depicted is not in walter scott's novel, "the puritans of scotland" published in 1816. It is more certainly the first scene from woodstock, located in england, where an armed man takes the place of the presbyterian minister from the pulpit. In the foreground is a greyhound which is also not in the puritans of scotland, but could well be bevis, the greyhound from woodstock. Acquisition method: manual donation
