Early artwork of lemur catta by george edwards. Text at top says: "der maucauco. Tab. Xcii. " (the maucauco [old name for various lemurs]. Plate 92. ) text at bottom says: "g. Eduards ad viv[um]. Delin[eavit]. / j. M. Seligmann excudit / cum priv[ilegio]. Sac[rae]. Caes[arae]. Majestatis / sebast. Leitner jun[ctus?] sculps[it]. / simia sciurus, madagascarensis / no. 92 viter theil / le maucauco" (g. Edwards drew it from life / j. M. Seligmann took it out / with the privilege of the holy roman emperor / sebastian leitner jointly engraved it / monkey squirrel, from madagascar / nr. 92 of the 6th part / the maucauco". Date: between 1749 and 1776.
