Matts Kankkonen by Swertschkoff, Wladimir Swertschkoff, 1856

Kokkola peasant and sealer matts kankkonen (1815–1899), whose shooting skills guaranteed the victory of the finnish volunteers in the so-called crimean war. Halkokar skirmish in 1854. This portrait was ordered of him by imperial order, which was placed in the helsinki imperial palace (now the presidential palace), where the painting is still located. The background of the painting is halkokari and the warehouses of the kokkola burghers located there, which the finns protected in the battle. In the photo, kankkonen has a st.
