Grafina Apraxina , 1810s

The lady in command is depicted with the code of a graduate of the smolny institute. On the back of the miniature, written in pencil, is countess apraksina. In the museum catalogues, the miniature is attributed as a portrait of countess vera nikolaevna zavadovskaya, née apraksina (1768-1845), but countess zavadovskaya did not study at the solony institute. Consequently, the miniature depicts countess maria alexandrovna apraksina, née waldstein (1756-1820), graduated from the smolny institute in 1776 with the code; from april 9, 1809, a lady in command. Date: 1810s.
