After the war - a vad ambulance bringing in french peasants wounded by shells left on the somme battlefield. Beaulencourt convoy. A figure lies on a stretcher on the ground, covered by a blanket, while another figure bends solicitously over it. Two male figures in uniform, one displaying a red cross armlet, kneel and bend over the figures. At the foot of the stretcher a female figure in uniform stands and holds the bottom of the blanket, while an open doored ambulance stands to the left. To the right of the stretcher is a large cross, while smaller crosses and blasted trees are the only features in a bare landscape. Date: (First World War).
