Self-portrait of hogarth painting the comic muse, after the painting in the national portrait gallery; the artist is seated looking to right, wearing an indoor cap and a loose coat, he holds a palette, brushes and palette knife while a pot of oil is on the floor beside the chair; in a niche in the wall behind the easel is a volume of prints and a burin; leaning against the leg of the easel, a copy of the "analysis of beauty" and the accompanying print, plate i (paulson 195). 1758 etching and engraving.
