The canvas represents queen maría de molina (c. 1264-1321), widow of sancho iv of castile, presenting her son ferdinand iv of castile (1285-1312) at the cortes of valladolid in 1295, in which queen maría de molina got all the procurators present in the cortes to pay homage to king ferdinand iv, and to recognize the infant henry of castile as the king's tutor. Senator, son of ferdinand iii of castile, and that the custody and upbringing of ferdinand iv were entrusted to queen maría de molina herself. To the left of the painting, queen maría de molina and her son, fernando iv, are represented. Both figures are sheltered by a canopy and standing on a stand, and behind them two bishops appear, one of them carrying a pastoral staff. Queen maría de molina is covered with a red cloak, and wears a white veil and a crown on her head. Ferdinand iv, for his part, who was 10 years old at the time of the events, appears wearing a short white tunic, which covers his knees, and which is adorned with the coat of arms of the kingdom of castile and león. The king carries a golden scepter in his left hand, which reaches almost to his head, and a small crown. Queen maría de molina has her arms partially extended forward, in a gesture that seems to indicate that she is watching over the fate of her son. Object Type: painting. Date: 1863.
