Francesco saverio grue: picture plate (ruin architecture in a landscape), ca. 1700–1749, faience (reddish shards, grey-white glaze, inglaze painting in green, brown, blue and yellow), height: 19. 6 cm, width: 25. 1 cm, depth: 1. 5 cm, museum of applied arts leipzig. The fountain and the ruin on the left and the three trees on the right form a repoussoir, which acts as a frame and draws the eye to the architecture in the middle of the picture. The five small staffage or back figures in the middle ground also draw the eye into the depths and at the same time clarify the proportions. Date: between circa 1700 and circa 1749.
