The story goes that michael ancher saw a photo of the family gathered for christmas 1900, and decided to turn it into a painting. On that photo were women of the brøndum family, but also anna ancher's two brothers, degn and john, and michael ancher himself. In a later sketch, the men were removed and in this study, the silverware on the table is replaced by a bible. Ancher just needed marie brøndum to sit with the bible in the study, as everything else was unchanged. Object Type: painting. Date: between 1900 and 1903.
