During the 16th century, many families commissioned elaborate maiolica services emblazoned with their heraldry. Such services often took the place of more costly metalwares. The initials around the coat of arms on this plate are those of the unknown original owner. Date: between circa 1540 and circa 1550 (Renaissance). Place of creation: Gubbio, Italy.
