In the photo we see 2nd lt. Józef ćwiertniak (pseudo name stefan), officer of the 3rd infantry regiment. Before world war i, he was the commander of the 1st wadowice scout team, and also belonged to the riflemen's association. After the outbreak of world war i, he joined the polish legions. He was promoted to ensign on october 20, 1914, and to second lieutenant on june 25, 1915. Before his internment and trial in marmaros-sziget, he was the commander of the 12th company of the 3rd infantry regiment as a lieutenant. After poland regained independence, he joined the polish army, where he achieved the rank of colonel. In september 1939, he was treated in rivne due to a serious illness. With the remnants of the troops of this garrison, he set off for lviv. While trying to get to the city in hołosk near lviv on september 21-22, 1939, he committed suicide.
