This is actually a copy of a copy. The danish painter c. A. Lorentzen had seen a work by j. B. Greuze and had painted a copy in paris, while travelling in europe in 1779-1782. After his return to denmark, lorentzen became a teacher at the royal danish academy, and he used the painting in his teaching of portrait painting.
