Karlskronavarvet 1782

Karlskronavarvet 1782

Shipyard picture from karlskrona, probably autumn 1782. Washed ink drawing by an unknown artist. The drawing is cropped and has a pasted border. The larger ships are probably, counted from the left, hedvig elisabet charlotta, launched 1781, gustaf iii, launched 1777, in the ship shed (wasa shed) crown prince gustaf adolph and on the bunk bed next to the frigate bellona, which newbuildings were keel-stretched on 18 july 1782 and launched on 6 november 1782, as well as in polhemsdockan fredrik adolph, launched 1775. The ship next to the wasa shed carrying the prussian flag is probably a cargo tug which transported the timber (oak planks ?) which is laid up next to the base of the shed to the shipyard. At this time, the yard imported a lot of oak wood from pomerania. In 1940, when the motor torpedo boat slip was to be built on lindholmen (karlskrona), a catch dam was first built, after which the water was pumped out. They then found a barge loaded with oak planks of the same type as you can see in the watercolor. Date: 1782.
